The showbiz queen of Pakistan, Mehwish Hayat recently launched her own production house, Pink Llama Films, in the United Kingdom. The popular film actress announced this milestone through her Instagram post, where she revealed her long-standing efforts to establish the production house. In a detailed Instagram note on her profile, Mehwish expressed her intention to establish Lama Production in the UK with the aim of providing authentic representation of the Muslim world and Pakistani culture in Western media.
Drawing from her experience working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series ‘Ms. Marvel,’ which has recently been nominated for multiple Emmy awards, she emphasized the importance of accurate representation. Over time, harmful stereotypes about the Muslim community and Pakistani culture have been perpetuated by Western media, contributing to the rise of Islamophobia. Mehwish believes it is crucial to counter these misconceptions by presenting a genuine and unbiased portrayal of Muslims to the global audience.
In her Instagram post she shared with the followers her big news stating that:
“I’m super excited to introduce you to something I’ve been working on for some time.
I’ve spoken a great deal about representation of Muslims and Pakistanis in Western media. Over time It’s become increasingly clear to me that just talking is not enough and we cannot wait for mainstream to change. If we want to change these perceptions we need to take matters into our own hands.
That’s why I’ve started Pink Llama Films in UK. I believe that that is the only way to shape the narrative about who we are and what we stand for.
I recently got the chance to act in the Ms Marvel series. The experience strengthened my belief how important representation really is.
